Project Description

Pel-Ona Architects & Urbanists designed a plan for the remodel of the existing green room in Boulder’s historic Chautauqua Auditorium and the creation of an additional second-floor green room. The Auditorium is a wooden building constructed in 1898 for the 1st season of CO Chautauqua, and through the years has been a venue for many lectures, musical performances and motion pictures. The former green room served as a private space for the performers but lacked modern amenities. The project included interior framing, stairs, heating/cooling, insulation, electrical, and plumbing for a seasonal bathroom on each level for the performers. Modifications to the main level occur behind existing walls and within the area that was formerly used as a green room. The creation of a second floor green room provides a second space for performances with multiple acts. Second level improvements are predominately screened from the public view by the existing acoustic reflectors.

The plan went through the City of Boulder’s Landmarks Design Review Committee process and received a Landmark Alteration Certificate.
